Vertellus to show advanced biobased plasticizer technologies at NPE 2015
Vertellus (booth #S29145), a leading global supplier of additives to the plastics and polymer industries based in Indiana, USA, has announced that next to their family of high-performance copolymers for glass fiber sizing and engineered plastics compounding, they will also be showcasing a line of bio-based plasticizers at the upcoming NPE 2015 in Orlando, Florida.
In addition to outstanding performance, both technologies help address growing global demand for next-generation sustainable solutions across the automotive, medical and wire and cable industries. Vertellus currently manufactures and markets many different bio-based plasticizers based on citric acid, castor oil and stearic acid. In recent years, due to scrutiny of phthalates, citrates are being considered as viable alternatives due to their low toxicity and low volatility; moreover, polymer compatibility is good with a great many polymers. They combine efficient plasticization of polymers with low toxicity, high flash points and rapid biodegradability. The company’s citrate-based Citroflex products are based on natural citric acid raw material mainly derived from the fermentation of corn and have already found application as bio-based, bio-degradable and compostable plasticizers for PVC and PLA, PHA and other bio-polymers for applications ranging from toys to medical tubing, and blood bags.
Additionally, Vertellus will feature at its booth a specialty antioxidant for styrenics, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) for automotive wire and cable and engineered plastics; and a dichlorodiphenyl sulfone (DCDPS) monomer to produce polysulfones and raw materials for polyurethanes such as castor oil/polyols, acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylic, food chemicals codex (FCC)/propylene glycol esters and catalysts.
