Digicolor introduces new Bioline dryer series

For over two years, the Herford, Germany-based manufacturer of auxiliary equipment Digicolor systematically worked on the development of guidelines for drying bioplastics.

In a research project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the company carried out extensive laboratory tests in order to determine, among other things, the association between the mechanical and physical properties of the produced parts and the degree to which the resin was predried prior to processing.

The steadily increasing volume of bioplastics used, combined with the ongoing further development of these materials, has created a huge need for equipment specifically designed to handle bioplastics, as important parameters – such as drying temperature, specific airflow rate, drying time and dew point - are different in bioplastics, compared to more familiar, conventional resins.

BiolineBased on the results of the tests carried out in the lab, Digicolor has now developed a new line of dryers, which has been launched under the name Drywell Bioline, that are able to handle the specific requirements of biopolymers. The new dryers feature modified drying parameters, such as extremely low drying temperatures and material-dependent adjustable airflow velocity. The first dryers are already being used in customer projects.

Digicolor has 38 years of experience in the development, production and configuration of dryer installations for the plastics processing industry. According to the company, the Drywell drying line is both energy efficient and flexibly implementable in production environments. The Drywell range runs from small, compact dryers that are mounted directly on the machine and mobile units for drying next to the machine to large central units with individually adjustable hoppers, to allow each resin type to be dried in accordance with the drying parameters recommended by the resin producer.
